We come to you

Driveway, workplace lot, job site, or the shoulder of the highway. The service truck carries the diagnostic gear, the tools, and the parts.

Drop it at the shop

Jobs that need a lift, a press, or a longer bench go to our shop on Huford Harris Road in Spring Hope. Same people, same price you were quoted.

We'll tow it in

Not running? Halfway apart in your garage? Towing is part of this business, not a second company with a second bill.

A real shop that happens to drive to you

Most mobile mechanics are a toolbox in a trunk. Wilson's Mobile Mechanic is a full repair business with a service truck, a shop on Huford Harris Road, and a tow truck. One veteran runs it, and he answers his own phone.

That combination is the whole point. When a job can be done in your driveway, it gets done in your driveway and you never lose the vehicle. When it genuinely needs a lift, a press, or three days on a bench, it moves to the shop. The same person who diagnosed it does the work, at the price you already agreed to.

Nothing gets ordered before it has been tested. Nothing gets touched before it has been priced. That is not a marketing promise, it is the reason 88 people took the time to leave a review.

What we work on

  • Domestic and import cars, SUVs, and light trucks
  • Diesel pickups, including Power Stroke, Cummins, and Duramax
  • Work trucks, vans, and small fleets on site
  • Outboards, pontoons, bass boats, and jet skis
  • Boat and utility trailer wiring, bearings, and brakes

One mechanic, most of the vehicle

Diagnostics that test instead of guess, repairs quoted before a wrench moves, and a labor warranty on the work. Cars, trucks, diesels, and boats.

Four steps, no surprises

The part people remember about working with Jay is that nothing happens to the vehicle before it has been explained and priced.

Call or text

Tell us the vehicle, the symptom, and where it sits. You will talk to the person who does the work, not a call center.

We come out

The truck arrives where the vehicle already is. We confirm the fault with testing rather than assuming from a code.

You get a price

A written number for the whole job before anything is ordered — including what happens if a second part is worn behind the first.

It gets fixed

Most jobs finish on site the same visit. Anything needing a lift goes to the shop, and we tow it there ourselves.

The mechanic your neighbor recommends

James “Jay” Wilson came up through dealerships and independent shops before starting this business. He is a veteran and a father of three, and the way he runs the work reflects both.

  • Diagnosis before parts. Codes name circuits. We test the component, the wiring, and the system behind it.
  • The price you were quoted. The number is agreed before the work starts, and it does not grow while the vehicle is apart.
  • Somebody actually answers. Reviewers keep mentioning it: calls and texts get returned, and appointments get kept.
  • Labor warranty on our work. Parts carry their manufacturer warranty; our labor carries ours.
  • Honest about the ceiling. When a repair costs more than the vehicle is worth, we say so instead of selling it.

“Jay and his team are fantastic. Prompt, courteous, great prices and the work is top-notch! I have found my new go to mechanic. From one Veteran to another, thank you for your service and your great work!”

I bought my 2015 Ford Edge about six months ago with a warranty in Wilson, NC. When the front defrost stopped working, the Ford dealership quoted me an extremely high repair cost, and my warranty didn’t cover it. Since the car had already lost half its value, trading it in wasn’t worth it. With help from my husband, I researched the issue and learned about mobile mechanics—something I’d never heard of before. That’s when I found James Wilson of Wilson’s Mobile Mechanic. He immediately identified the problem over the phone using the exact terms I had just learned. My husband and I previously ran an HVAC company for 10 years, so we’ve worked with many contractors, and James truly stands out. James is professional, knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, and clearly cares about his customers. He’s also a veteran and a father of three, which speaks to his integrity. He even recommended a better car warranty that I switched to right away. It’s convenient that he can come to your home, offer towing if needed, or work from his shop in Spring Hope, NC. And even though I’m clearly not a mechanic, he patiently explained everything and answered all my questions. I highly recommend James to single women, families, or anyone who wants a trustworthy mechanic who genuinely has their best interests in mind.

I have a 2004 Toyota Sequoia that the ball joint completely fell of, Jay had this repair completed with new upper and lower control arms and ball joints in record time. Could not be more pleased at his quality workmanship and professionalism. I highly recommend him

Wilson Automotive LLC did a wonderful job on my 2000 F350. I had an issue with the manual transmission, and they arrived when they said they would and fixed it right away. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is honest. I’ve had a lot of problems with certain mechanics over the past year, but with them, it was very straightforward. Now, the truck shifts better than it ever has.

Common questions

Do you actually come to me, or do I bring the vehicle to you?
Both, and you pick. Most repairs happen wherever your vehicle already sits — your driveway, your workplace parking lot, a job site, or the shoulder of the road. When a job genuinely needs a lift, a press, or several days on a bench, the work moves to our shop in Spring Hope and we tow it there ourselves.
What areas do you cover?
Spring Hope and the surrounding counties: Nash, Franklin, Wilson, Edgecombe, Johnston, and eastern Wake, plus Halifax, Vance, and Granville for larger jobs and lake-season marine work. If you are near the edge of that, call — the answer is usually yes.
How much does a diagnosis cost?
There is a diagnostic charge, and you are told what it is before we come out. It covers the time and equipment it takes to test rather than guess, and it is the reason you end up paying for the part that actually failed instead of the first one a code mentioned.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. The work we perform carries a labor warranty, and parts carry the manufacturer's warranty. You will be told the terms for your specific job before the work starts, not after.
Do you work on diesel trucks?
Yes — Power Stroke, Cummins, and Duramax. Hard starts, injector and glow plug faults, fuel system diagnosis, turbo and boost leaks, and emissions-related sensor faults. For working trucks we come to the yard or the job site, because downtime is the real cost.
Do you really work on boats?
Yes, and it is a genuine specialty, not a sideline. Outboards, sterndrives, pontoons, bass boats, and jet skis — impellers, lower units, fuel systems, batteries, trim and tilt, plus trailer wiring, bearings, and brakes. We service them at the house or the storage lot, which beats a three-week marina waitlist in July.
